As we approach our company’s launch (tomorrow!!), we’ve been reflecting on our journey and the people who helped us along the way. Starting a business feels a lot like going down a twisty water slide without any ledges: it’s concurrently terrifying and exhilarating, and there are so many unknowns. We feel so fortunate to be surrounded by family and friends who support our venture, and who encourage us to succeed. As two women with zero knowledge of the (male-dominated) industry, starting Sip City was a risk (and is a risk). To continue with this half-baked waterslide metaphor, we will hopefully hit water soon and be swimmingly on our way. But before all of that craziness ensues, we’d like to say a special thank you to some wonderful people who have offered us unwavering support and encouragement:
A HUGE thank you to the Union Kitchen team for saying yes to us and our idea, and bringing us into their family and community. Thank you for being on call for all sorts of ridiculous questions and concerns. Thank you for meeting with us every week, very early in the morning. Thank you for creating this vibrant community of inspiring and creative food entrepreneurs. A special thank you to Cullen and Elena for putting up with us. We’d also like to thank the UK community, our accelerator cohort, and accelerator alum for always being on hand to offer sage advice, whether it be about a sales strategy or how to fix the printer. We’d be lost without you all.
Thank you thank you thank you to our friends, who have been our sounding board and guinea pigs for the past 6 months. Your enthusiasm for our project has kept us going. Your honest feedback has proved crucial. Your love and support have filled our hearts. A special thank you to Tyler Brown, Shanna Cooper, Wes Jones, Ari Wolk, Ariel Sadeghi, Caitlin Brandman, Julia Eisenberg, Morgan Peterson, Cameron Longyear, Grace Hoyt, Meagan Adler, Ellen London Crane, Amanda Kersey, Sarah Bassy, Katie Mogul, and Caroline Maugeri.
A giant thank you to our families, for your words of wisdom, your openness to us taking on this adventure, and your unwavering love and reassurance. We feel so fortunate to have you as our support system.
Nikki: Thank you times a million to my mom, dad, sister, Nana, grandparents, and Uncle Eric, for encouragement when I’ve doubted myself, for advice when I’ve been at a loss, for honest feedback when I’ve been torn, and for putting up with me for all of these years. I never would have had the courage to do this without your love, your kindness, and your generosity.
Josie: SO many thank yous are in order, but above all, thank you mom, dad, Ross, Stephen, and Aunt Kathy for your unconditional love and support. I am forever grateful to have been born into a family of go-getters, dreamers, and doers. The most special part of this creation is sharing it with you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Ethan, thank you for letting us take over the apartment and our lives with this business. We’re sorry about any fruit that got juiced onto the ceiling and walls. Thank you for always lending a helping hand, for bartending our events, for taste testing our concoctions, and for your constant support. We owe you many a switchel cocktail.
And thank you to all of our friends, family and followers, far and wide, for all your kind words and support!
